Foot Warts
Contact, Diagnosis and Treatment
How Do You Contact Foot Warts?
Foot warts or plantar warts as it is also known, is a condition that affects the sole of the feet. This is caused by a virus called HPV or the human papillomavirus which is extremely contagious. There are hundreds of strains of HPV, each affecting different parts of the body and causing a variety of symptoms. This particular strain causes warts formation right on the soles of the feet – hence the name – plantar warts.
How Do You Diagnose The Plantar Warts?
The first and more obvious symptom is that the warts appear on the bottom of your feet. A very peculiar thing about this condition is that the warts do not grow outwards, but inwards. This usually makes it difficult to see these warts until they prove uncomfortable. Once the person is infected, the foot warts develop first as tiny lesions and then if left untreated, into large warts which are either single or in group. As they grow larger, the person would experience acute discomfort and pain while walking.
A visit to a doctor would help diagnosing the cause of the foot warts and if it is found that you are infected with the virus, it would be good to immediately start the recommended treatment. Since there is no cure for a virus, the treatment would normally involve boosting the immune system of the body while side by side treating other symptoms as they manifest themselves.
How Do Get Rid Of Foot warts?
When warts appear on any part of the body you have a choice of ignoring them or removing them. However, with the foot warts this choice would not be offered to you. This is because this particular condition is extremely painful when the warts are grown and spread all over the foot – so much so that you would not be able to ignore these and walk.
Getting Rid Of Foot Warts
Fortunately, there are many ways to remove warts and most of them are within the reach of the common person. The most common way to remove foot warts is through surgery with the help of local anesthesia. This method is popular because it does not cost an arm and a leg and it gives excellent results. However, there is a great deal of discomfort post surgery for which some people choose other methods such as (i) laser burning, (ii) freezing with liquid nitrogen and (iii) chemical treatment.
1. Laser burning is fast, gives excellent against foot warts results and is bloodless. This is a very convenient choice for those who are apprehensive about regular surgery and the recovery period that follows it. The downside here is the cost which is a little on the higher side.
2. Freezing with liquid nitrogen – this is another choice that is adopted by millions of affected people out there. This method involves freezing the foot warts with the help of nitrogen after which the warts would dry and fall off. The downside with this method is that it involves a long period of waiting when special pads would need to be worn on the feet – which by itself would be quite uncomfortable.
3. Chemical treatment – this method too involves having the foot warts are exposed to chemical for a period of time until is dissolves or fall off.
