Genital Warts Symptoms
Do You Know What These Are?
The problem with the genital warts is that the symptoms may develop much later after the infection takes place. There are times when the manifestation of these genital warts symptoms takes months and even years to surface. In the meantime, the infected person would be able to pass on the virus to all the people that he/she comes into contact as this is a highly contagious condition.
The genital warts symptoms, as the name indicates, would appear in the genital area. Women would have them on the vulva, inside the vagina, at the base of the cervix and around the anus. Men would experience the genital warts symptoms on the tip of the penis, on the scrotal sca, inside the urethra and around the anal region. The warts could be flat and hardly visible to the naked eye or these could be lumpy; they could be single or they could be in a group together resembling a cauliflower or a bunch of grapes.
It is often that the warts are painless and colorless (flesh color). Since they are in the genital area and people do not usually inspect the area closely, these could be ignored for a very long time without treatment. In the meantime, as the viral infection progresses, other genital warts symptoms may be experienced such as:
1. Acute itchiness – the area where the warts come out would be very itchy and on itching it would often bleed. The itchiness would be heightened in the evening after wearing tight clothes for a long time.
2. Burning sensation – both men and women would experience a burning sensation while urinating or passing stools. Some would attribute the burning sensation to the itchiness, though this is a separate symptom of the viral infection.
3. Bleeding during sexual intercourse – this is one of the more serious genital warts symptoms - very often women would find they are bleeding substantially post sexual intercourse (outside the menstrual cycle time) for seemingly not valid reason. This is when the warts around the cervix mouth break and bleed. The genital warts that form around the cervix most often turn cancerous – hence, it is advisable that once a woman is found suffering from this condition test herself every two years (pap smear test) against this possibility.
4. Irregularity in body function – the warts would gradually interfere with the regular body functions such as urination, passing of stools, sex, etc. There would be either pain, burning sensation, bleeding or all the symptoms together.
5. Visible warts – though often the warts are not very prominent, there are many cases when the warts break out all over the genital area resulting in a very gross overall look. When the warts break out in this way, the person would need to have them removed as once they are formed the warts would not reverse.
Removal Of Warts
There is no cure to a viral infection; the body needs to overcome it by itself. Hence, the best way to fight this condition is to strengthen the body’s immune system. In cases where the warts have already been formed and look bad, methods such as laser surgery or liquid nitrogen treatment may be used. As soon as you think you are showing any genital warts symptoms consult your doctor for finding out which would be the best possible choice for you.
